Anastas Reviews 1940 Gellhorn Novel in NYT
Literature faculty member Ben Anastas declared Martha Gellhorn鈥檚 1940 book, A Stricken Field, the writer鈥檚 greatest novel and 鈥渆ssential reading for the political moment we鈥檙e living through today鈥 in a New York Times book review.
The novel follows an American journalist as she confronts a growing refugee crisis in Prague at the beginning of World War II.
Gellhorn, who herself is considered one of the greatest war correspondents of the 20th century, is also known for being the third wife of American novelist Ernest Hemingway.
