PEN/Faulkner Celebrates Malamud
Hundreds of literary fans and notables gathered in Washington D.C. last week for a celebration of what would have been longtime former faculty member Bernard Malamud's 100th year.

Widely considered one the finest American writers of the 20th-century, Malamud taught at Bennington from 1961-1984, a span in which he won his second National Book Award, a Pulitzer Prize for fiction, and the O. Henry Award for the short story.
The PEN/Faulkner Foundation, which organized last week's event, has been giving the $5,000 Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story since 1998.
