Course Description

Summary

For the experienced (2+years of playing) violinist. Lessons in traditional styles of fiddling - Quebecois, New England, Southern Appalachian, Cajun, Irish, and Scottish. This tutorial is designed to heighten awareness of the variety of ways the violin is played regionally and socially in North America (and indeed around the world these days) and to give practical music skills for furthering personal music making. Students will be expected to perform at Music Workshop, or as part of a concert, in ensemble and/or solo. Corequisites: Must also participate in Music Workshop (Tuesdays, 6:30 - 8pm).

Prerequisites

2+ years of violin instruction. Must have your own instrument or arrange for instrument use per term. Permission of the instructor.
