Course Description

Summary

A laboratory for learning and working through the complexities of media's role in a democratic society. We will zero in on some of the pressing issues of this year's midterm elections, and use them as a lens onto topics such as : campaign finance, media ownership, information visualization (or distortion) by media, and some new strategies for media as a platform for ideas and a catalyst for action. Students will be conducting active independent and/or group research projects, and are expected to remain fully engaged in current media/democracy news during the course.
