Thermal Physics
PHY4104.01
Course Description
Summary
The simple concept of Temperature is not so simple. In this class, we will investigate the meaning of temperature and how what we know about thermodynamics and entropy informs our view of the physical world. Such an investigation is fundamentally statistical, so we will build a statistical view of physical systems and use that understanding to broadly study such topics as the quantum nature of photons, chemical potential, and states of matter.Prerequisites
Physics I, Physics II, and Calculus. Or permission of the instructor.
