Course Description
Summary
This is an introductory course to basic mold making and slip casting techniques for producing multiple components to create sculptural ceramic objects or a series of functional ware. This class focuses on the development of design concept through exploration of various casting methods, applying alteration techniques and experimenting with prototype making. Basic preparation of the material, glaze application and firing techniques will be introduced. In addition, assemblage techniques to achieve various structural forms will be incorporated in some assignments. Through several diverse assignments, we will explore prototype design, make plaster molds, and practice porcelain slip casting production to develop skills. Please note that this course may require additional materials to be purchased by the student.Prerequisites
