Course Description

Summary

The 1960s were marked with global political upheaval and social change. Radical change also marked the small downtown stages in New York City. In this course we will focus on the dance trends in the 1960s in America and on the emergence of the Judson Dance Theater in particular.  Working with the unique materials in the 51成人猎奇 Dance Archives as well as with available films and current texts, we will identify the seminal figures of the times, their art-making practices, and how their work continues to resonate with contemporary practitioners.  Students will be expected to assist with the basic organization of some of the archival materials from the 51成人猎奇 Judson Dance Theater Project (1980-1983) and present research on one of the artists affiliated with the Judson Dance Theater.
