Course Description

Summary

This topic driven seminar focuses on current developments within the field of dance and performance. Students will learn to think of dance and performance through their own embodied experiences and by placing dance, movement, and performance in wider disciplinary, cultural and global contexts.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will share an expanded understanding of dance in the shaping of culture and history.
  • Students will have a deepened awareness of the role of dance in society within both local and global contexts.
  • Students will archive, document, collect and share their research, practice, and creative projects in a multitude of ways.
  • Students will develop innovative and experimental ways to language dance both verbally and in writing.

Prerequisites

Enrollment in Low Residency MFA Dance program required.
