Course Description

Summary

This seminar course explores and enacts multidirectional modes of research in and through dance. The course moves through lectures, workshops and experiments that activate processes of creation/performance and guide each student in the development of a portfolio of documents related to professional practice. Students will create social and public platforms for their research and engage in dialogues related to sustainability, equity, and possibility within the field of dance.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will articulate questions that are foundational to their choreographic research and career goals, and form outreach, organizational and research strategies that situate curiosity and interdependence at the center of future planning.
  • Students will collect, document and share research practices and creative processes in a multitude of ways.
  • Students will communicate how their work as a dance artist fits into larger conversations in dance and culture.
  • Students will research and present the work of artists whose career paths offer models of sustainability.
  • Students will collaboratively develop and engage innovative and experimental ways to reimagine dance and performance practices.

Prerequisites

Enrollment in BFA Dance program required.
