Butoh

DAN2105.01

Course Description

Summary

Class starts with quiet and soft warm-up exercises with the intention of letting all tension go from your body and mind. A relaxed body with no expectation will allow you to be open and available to whatever comes to you. In Butoh, by accepting both what's surrounding you and what's happening inside yourself, using imagination and establishing a sense of presence, your body will keep transforming and inviting dance. Unique and imaginative terms such as "sneezing body," "swallow pollen," "dead bird," "heavy face," etc. will sometimes be offered in class exercises. However, this class will encourage you to recognize and discover the uniqueness of your own physicality without allegiance to any particular form or style.
