Course Description

Summary

Creating set designs for plays and musicals may seem like a great mystery, but the key to successful set design is always found in the authors original text. An understanding of that text is vital to creating an imaginative performance space that serves the storytelling. Once the essence of the original work is understood, the set designers creative process can begin. Students in this course will learn how to utilize the text to inspire their own set designs, through a series of group and individual creative projects. This is an introductory course in set design and is open to all students interested in the fundamental dynamics of theater. Corequisites: Dance or drama lab assignment.
