Course Description

Summary

"No one else in the world, to my knowledge, no one since Stanislavski, has investigated the nature of acting, its phenomenon, its meaning, the nature and science of its mental, physical, emotional process as deeply and completely as Grotowski." - Peter Brook In this class we will explore, through readings and on our feet, the teachings and training techniques that Grotowski produced over forty years of work in the theater. We will explore his work starting with the Laboratory Theatre and continue through to, and include, his research at the Work Center in Pontedera. We will also investigate the work of several of the countless theater artists for whom he was an inspiration. Corequisite: Dance or Drama Lab Assignment.
