Course Description

Summary

This course will provide an in-depth look at a single model philosophy essay over seven course meetings, in order to gain a deeper understanding of its form, content, context, aims, and purpose.  Students will thereby obtain a deeper understanding of the academic research paper in general as a form in which scholars present, publish, and test their ideas.  Possible essays used as models include Frankfurt's "On Bullshit," Nagel's "What is it Like to be a Bat?,"  Kant's "On Enlightenment," among others.
