Course Description

Summary

Students in this class will read a selection of plays drawn from a contemporary and classic canon of dramatic literature.  Students will  be required to analyze and explore these plays beat by beat.  This is a script interpretation class in which theme, dramatic structure and arc, character development, tone, style and study of given playwrights and their influences will be explored in detail.  Unlike a class which concerns itself primarily with literary analysis, this class will attempt to illuminate the kind of "table work" play analysis that one would be a part of working in a real world theatrical situation.  This is not a performance class, though it is suggested for actors, directors, designers, playwrights and students from other disciplines interested in dramatic literature. Work for the class will include in-depth discussion and presentations led by rotating members of the class, as well as written analysis.
