Course Description

Summary

This course will dive deep into non-traditional music production techniques, and look at the history of pioneering musicians, engineers and producers whose work changed how we listen to recordings, including the work of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Joe Meek, George Clinton, Brian Eno, Sun Ra, Pierre Henry, The Residents, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Public Enemy. This history will be a springboard for developing our own forward-thinking approaches to using the recording studio as a creative tool. Students will be expected to complete a mid-term project as well as a final project.
