Course System Home Terms Summer 2025 Thesis Forms: Artist鈥檚 Book

Course Description

Summary

Through individualized meetings the course will support students in developing and completing written components of the thesis artist鈥檚 book. These meetings will be opportunities for discussion and feedback aiming towards the composition, annunciation, vision, and eloquence of each artist鈥檚 written and critically expressive voice. As another component of the course, each student will be frequently sending their drafts of writing to the professor so that an ongoing conversation between the student鈥檚 ideas and expression of those ideas through writing can be collaboratively worked through together.

Each graduate student in the program completes a final thesis as the culmination of their work towards the MFA degree.  The thesis takes two forms: an artist鈥檚 book and a public project, Research as Action.  In each case, the thesis represents a synthesis of the student鈥檚 accumulated knowledge and skill and an opportunity to display the ideas, practices and skills learned through the program. The thesis is intended to display the student鈥檚 ability to go beyond the mere collection of information into synthesis, analysis, judgment and interpretation. Thinking Partners work in support of the student鈥檚 progress and process
